This first appeared at a perfume making workshop at our old studio in Acton. Sarah was demonstrating the way that Hedione™ helps materials smell as if you've just walked outside into a garden and are standing right next to the real thing.
In honour of both Peter Rabbit and his arch nemisis, Mr McGregor, and in further honour of the master of translucence in perfumery, Jean Claude Ellena, creator of the Hermes Jardin series of fragrances, we set about making the scent of a cottage garden in the Lake District.
For batch two, if we make it at all, we'll have to tweak the formula because we did get a bit carried away with the materials: orris, tobacco (Mr McGregor has a pipe), blackcurrant bud, jasmine, parsnip, hay, lavender, cedar moss, vetivert and patchouli for a nice muddy base, cucumber and mushroom.
Equally evocative but not that expensive, notes of cut grass, leather, strawberries, lily of the valley, blackberries, celery and musk, because we think that musk smells like freshly washed bunnies.
Perfumery Dialect: fruity floral
Top Notes: cut grass, strawberry, mint
Heart Notes: hay, rose, lavender
Base Notes: tobacco, moss, mushroom
